Merry Christmas
We had a wonderfully peaceful Christmas day. It started with midnight mass, Doug and I sang in the choir with Meemaw while Lucas sat in the congregation with grandpa. He helped his dad ring the church bells at the beginning of the service, and he stayed awake for the whole 2 1/2 hours! Timmy stayed home with Aunt Christine and Uncle Charles, so he was up nice and early the next morning. Lucas was very excited about giving me the present he had made, but seemed to be in no hurry to open his own. Doug made us a nice breakfast and Lucas started opening gifts around 11, just as Timmy went down for his nap. He stopped about halfway through to play with the unwrapped toys. We had dinner at Meemaw's house and opened gifts there in the early afternoon. We sang happy birthday to Jesus and ate the birthday cake Lucas had made the day before. When we got home Lucas was ready to open the rest of his gifts, and Timmy's too. Timmy liked playing with the toys, but wasn't very adept at the unwrapping. We turned in early, since I was exhausted (and a little feverish) and Lucas hadn't had a nap. But a good night's sleep did wonders, so today I got to partake in my annual second-day-of-Christmas celebration... shopping :) I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas celebration as well.

On the road
Timmy enjoys some kolaches from West, Texas. We spent most of Saturday on the road. First a three-hour drive to Fort Worth for Great-great Uncle John Godfrey's funeral, then a five hour drive to Houston for an evening wedding at Rice University. Then we left Houston at 5am to make it back to Austin in time for morning services. It was a long day.
On the other hand, watching someone say goodbye to the person they've been married to for 58 years, and watching another couple take that first step to couplehood in the same day cetainly gives you some perspective.
The funeral pictures are posted primarily for the benefit of those family members who were not able to travel to the funeral.

Special Delivery
Back in April our roof suffered hail damage, so we're finally getting it replaced. We had fun watching the roofers deliver the shingles on Wednesday. They worked on the roof all day today and will finish tomorrow. We also have a special package in the wagon from cousin Jamie. Lucas is really enjoying the toys you sent, Jamie thanks for sharing! Lucas loves pink. (sorry Doug!)
