We've had a lot of fun with science this week. While reading about volcanoes and earthquakes, we've done many experiments, including making plastic out of whole milk, making our own paper from old newsprint, making a volcano with vinegar and baking soda (pictured here), and learning about convection.

Family Math

Our friend Sharon hosted a family math gathering yesterday. We had fun playing math games about symetry, estimating, measuring length, sets, and comparing numbers. There were a few breaks for free play too.

Celebrating back-to-school

We celebrated the begining of the school year by enjoying a day at the local sprinkler park with some playgroup friends, now that it's no longer crowded. I look forward to spending more time outside exploring as the weather cools this fall, and going on fields trips downtown when the commuter rail begins service this fall. I love homeschooling, it's amazing what can happen when you let a child's natural curiosity drive their learning (although Lucas does occasionally get bored enough to "do lessons" - which become much more appealing around bed-time).

MOMS Club send-off

Our MOMS Club had a little celebration for members who will be starting Kindergarden this fall. We met at a park with a huge sand pit and sprinklers to cool off from the heat. Cake anyone? We took home the leftovers :)

Summer Musical for Children

We had fun seeing our friends David, Greg, and Jennifer perform in this year's summer musical for children. There are still 3 performances tomorrow and shows next weekend too. Don't miss it!
