We've had a lot of fun with science this week. While reading about volcanoes and earthquakes, we've done many experiments, including making plastic out of whole milk, making our own paper from old newsprint, making a volcano with vinegar and baking soda (pictured here), and learning about convection.

We celebrated the begining of the school year by enjoying a day at the local sprinkler park with some playgroup friends, now that it's no longer crowded. I look forward to spending more time outside exploring as the weather cools this fall, and going on fields trips downtown when the commuter rail begins service this fall. I love homeschooling, it's amazing what can happen when you let a child's natural curiosity drive their learning (although Lucas does occasionally get bored enough to "do lessons" - which become much more appealing around bed-time).
